why is it that when my family are trying to talk me into getting on a plane (so scared of the idea) to go and see my mum in tenerife, within weeks another plane crashes – don’t think i’ll ever bother, puts me right off the idea I’ll wait til she comes here instead

Firstly, the reason that plane crashes make the news is because it doesn’t actually happen that often. Air travel is very safe compared to other modes of transport.
Secondly, there are courses designed for the terrified – have you considered doing one of those?
Lastly, if the thought of flying frightens you so much that it would ruin any holiday I wouldn’t put myself through it. Go with the flow and book trips that don’t involve planes. Leave the flying to those who aren’t bothered.
